First, just a reminder of our meeting to plan our next Fair Vote and CAPP sponsored event on Wednesday September 8, 7:30, at the Queen Street Commons Cafe (across from the Working Centre). Everyone is very welcome and contributions of ideas or help is always appreciated. Second, in June I sent out packages to the high schools inquiring about doing Fair Vote presentations (on electoral reform/pr)to classes of high school students. I have four tentative grade 10 classes so far and I hope more to come! If anyone is interested in doing these presentations with me, or coming to assist, I would be most pleased to have company - just send me an email. Finally, making very clear that Fair Vote is non-partisan and does not endorse candidates (that is very clearly not my intention), on a personal note, I live in Ward 9 and have been visited by some of the local city candidates going door to door. I know proportional representation is not a city issue, but Fair Vote does have a campaign to bring PR to cities and boards of non-profits, so I always ask a candidate's position on proportional representation, among other local issues. I queried Frank Etherington about his opinion of bringing a proportional voting system like STV to local elections and he thought this was a "great idea". It's not a bad idea to ask our local candidates. When I looked up the articles he's written in the Record later, I found this good one from 2008 calling for electoral reform: http://news.therecord.com/article/432762 Take care and hope to see many of you at the planning meeting, and especially, at the next Fair Vote event!
