[fvc-wat-disc] Exec meeting and the F-word

Has the executive decided when it wants to hold its next meeting?
I think it probably would be good to organize one before May 22, because
there are a few issues that are coming up that I think I will throw out:
0. A provincial candidate in a local riding has approached us to
ask for some literature (1000 pieces, actually). The idea is that the
candidate would be passing out our literature while canvassing door-to-door.
I am pretty enthusiastic about the possibilities here, but I'm
pretty sure the executive has some details to work out:
- What branding should go on the literature? Ours? The party's?
The Yes Campaign's?
- How does this affect funding issues for us and for the other
party? Who pays for the literature?
- Are we going to try and coordinate canvassing? (i.e. we will try
to hit places this candidate has not been yet?)
- What happens when multiple competing parties want our
literature?
I think that the central offices might have some things to say
about this. I think the exec will need to figure this out carefully,
though.
1. What should we try to do for a campaign office? Do we need one
from now onwards? From August to October? Are we willing to pay for a
space? If so, how much?
2. Rick wisely wants to get us some maps. Are there special
procedures that we need to follow for this stuff or can we be informal
about it (e.g. Rick just orders and people pay him without involving the
Chapter.)
All of this is leading to the f-word: fundraising. While tracking
down information about local candidates, I saw a number like $73 000 being
the goal for somebody running a political campaign! That's for one riding,
and we have four.
I am getting the impression that we will need to spend some money
to make this campaign work, and so maybe it is time to start thinking
about fundraising strategies.
My own inclination is to continue getting things done on the
cheap, but that will get us only so far. I imagine lots more pamphlets and
some lawn signs may be in our future.
With all that in mind: has the executive already scheduled a next
meeting? If not, what would be a good time? (After May 7, I guess, since
Angela is away.)
Would the executive prefer to meet alone or should other chapter
members attend?
Would it be helpful for the executive to contact the main office
(maybe Larry Gordon?) to talk some of this stuff over before the meeting?
