[fvc-wat-disc] Change info meeting in Oct to Oct 2?

Article 17 of Regulation 211 states that "advertising public meetings relating to the referendum" is NOT prohibited during the blackout period (October 9 and 10). So presumably, a public meeting would also be entirely legal. BUT, we probably couldn't distribute pro-MMP leaflets at the public meeting without violating the legislation! These are the kinds of absurd situations that election finance regulators just love to create.

If you want, I can try this week to contact somebody in Elections Ontario for a clarification on this, but my personal experience is that these folks like to cast as big a regulatory net as widely as possible. They're real sticklers for the rules, not surprisingly.

And just to let you know, I'll be in Toronto on October 9 and won't be able to participate. In fact, starting September 11, I'll be teaching every Tuesday evening, from 5 to 9. Sorry ...
Brian

We already have two Tuesdays in September.

I am starting to reconsider this. We have given out over 500
leaflets, plus put up posters and such advertising this date. Before
cancelling the booking I would like to see whether we can get clearance to
hold the meeting.
