[fvc-wat-disc] Translation help

Hi Anita,

I'd be happy to help with proofreading. Haven't formally studied grammar since I finished grade 13, which was (ahem) a few years ago, and I come from the country so many of the things I say are not "proper". But I did some French proofing work for one of the insurance companies here back when I was stuck doing that for a living, maybe 10 years ago, and I still read a lot.

I've been lurking on the sidelines of FVC for a while, wanting to get more involved but never having the time. Looks like this might be my chance!

Yes, the location for the Robocall event has been changed to the Duke of Wellington, 33 Erb Street East, Waterloo. Map: http://osm.org/go/ZXnboldv?m

Keep an eye on the Fair Vote Waterloo calendar at http://fairvote.ca/waterlooregion for this and other events.

You should also know about the upcoming KW Federal Liberal Association's debate on electoral reform[1], and Cooperate For Canada's fundraiser concert with James Gordon[2], both on 27 January.

(apparently the FVCWRC Executive passed a motion to not promote third-party events, but since I'm no longer a member of the FVCWRC Executive... :)

Hi Anita,

I can do some proofreading, and possibly translating from French to English, but I am not confident moving in the opposite direction (English to French). And there are certain times of the year - December, April, September, mainly) that are not good (doing course prep or
grading!)

My father was French-speaking, until he was about 11. Then he was rapidly assimilated. I didn't hear much French in the home (apart from swear words). But I have an Honours BA in PoliSci and French, and so should be able to handle simple stuff.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Fair Vote supporters.

As Fair Vote is getting busier, translation into french is getting to be more of an issue. We have a paid translator we use for the monthly newsletter and press releases, but if we had to use a professional more than that we'd be broke. We have a small group of volunteer translators, but I hate to inundate them with stuff.

I'm wondering if any of you are bilingual (or know someone who is who would want to help FVC) and could translate or proofread the odd thing for me?

Anita

Thank you, Brian! Of all the people to reply to this.... (Everyone - Brian is doing a lot for the cause of PR lately - we're having a joint event with the Social Planning Council and Transition KW on Feb 20 connecting income inequality, environment and electoral reform - details to come in the next few weeks - and he is one of the speakers).

I may send you some occasional proofreading of translation into French done by other volunteers - two sets of eyes are always better than one!

Thanks!

Anita
