What’s the story with the straw poll?
Did she ask how many had decided what they want?
The answer?
Was it asked at other town halls?
Do we have a summary of what input was gathered at our town hall or others?

Thanks Jenn for responding to the question of should we send the footage of Monsef's town hall straw poll to Chris Hall? Unless, there is opposition to that, I will find Chris Hall's contact information and send the video to him today.

  Sure, Dave.  So, on Liberal.ca there is a section called Platform and you could go during the election (and possibly still now) and vote for the policies you particularly liked or hated.  So I made a spreadsheet with the results and you can sort (not that easily, sadly) by the number of votes each policy got, or you can sort by the ranking each policy got with those votes.  For example, Guns got a ton of votes--but they were clearly split between those who liked the policy proposed, and those who hated it.  That policy had the lowest ranking I believe, but the second most votes.

  Seven policies had more than 10,000 votes.  We came fifth in terms of votes.  In terms of ranking among those seven popular policies, we were number one.  We were fourth in terms of ranking among all 105 policies.

  They've unmuzzled scientists.  We beat that policy.  They've given help to families.  We beat that policy.  They've made changes to the small business deduction.  We beat that policy.  They've allowed ex-pats to vote.  We beat that policy.  But OUR policy is the only one we must have 35 million people vote on, specifically, in spite of having an election where this was campaigned on, and also in the platform of two other parties giving it a 63% support.

  So are they saying they did all those other things WITHOUT the support of Canadians?  Because, that's what it sounds like they are saying.

          Reading the Waterloo Region town hall report, one could see why Monsef would say that there was no consensus for change which was part of her message in this interview.  If the WR report was indicative of other MP town hall reports then we have a self fulfilling process.

          She stated that she heard from passionate folks supporting PR & FPTP.  I have attended 4 consultation meetings: three town halls and one ERRE committee open mic meeting.  There was no strong support for FPTP at any of those meetings.  All meetings were in SW Ont. or Toronto, so that may bias the views.

          She stated that FVC's statement that the straw vote at the beginning of each of her town halls didn't included a vote on PR.  We have our town hall on video & I would like to review that segment of the meeting. Don't know if it is on our website yet, if not I will be in touch with Laurel to see if we can take a look at the section of the meeting. I remember the straw poll but don't recall if there was a vote on PR or if it was simply for a more general electoral system change. Does anyone else have a clear memory of the vote?

          One thing that she didn't confirm was the strong, clear and definitive policy that all Liberal MPs campaigned on.  That seems to be forgotten.

          We should write to The House to remind the Liberals of their campaign promise.
