TW/CW: Police Violence - We have been made aware of the following incident
of police brutality in the Waterloo Region. This incident, which took place
Sunday morning involved one Black Somali resident and approximately 10-15
WRPS officers. We struggle with releasing such traumatic imagery. However,
we record and release videos of the violence we experience because we are
not believed, locally or globally. We share these videos with the full
knowledge of the trauma it inflicts on the original victim, their family
and our entire Black community. Our community's well-founded fear of police
is on display in this record. Other residents are seen and heard actively
managing this high tension incident, pleading with police to stop beating a
non-resisting man lying on the ground. The men in the video alternate
between beating the witness and turning away to avoid potentially seeing
another Black death at the hands of the police.
