Hey,

I've done a lot of volunteer work in Guelph, namely with the Guelph Jazz Festival, the Guelph International Film Festival, and the Guelph International Resource Centre. The only thing is that none of those have an actual mailing list set up, nor any sort of key contact person off-season... However, if you did put together a press release and sent it along to me, I wouldn't mind sending it out to those contacts in a mass e-mail...I think it would just seem less spammy being sent out that way. I could BCC you in. Among those contacts, then, I can almost guarantee that it would propagate across a huge network of Guelphites...
Given the good response to the Waterloo public consultation, it
would be nice if we could get some people (Guelphites and Waterlooians who
did not make the other consultation) out on the 20th. To that end, I have
some ideas:

0. Carpooling: Even though I messed up when handing out
information last time, it turned out that carpooling got two more people
out to the Waterloo meeting. Is anybody planning to drive to the Guelph
meeting? If so, are you willing to carpool? From where can you do pickups?

1. Outreach: My Guelph contacts are not so good. We should make a
press release and get it out, and we should get in touch with local
organizations that might be interested in getting their members out to
this meeting. Can you help with this? You could contact some
organizations, list some organizations to this mailing list, or
So far I have only contacted one organization: the Guelph OPIRG.
But there are many more leads, I am sure.

2. Busing: a crazy idea I had was to maybe rent a SCHOOLBUS to
take us to Guelph, for those of us who want to go. However, I have no idea
whether this is feasible or not. I don't know how much this would cost or
how we could arrange it. Would somebody be willing to chase down these
details over the next few days? If it turned out that we could do a
round-trip to Guelph for $5/person or less, it might be a good way to get
some Waterloo/Kitchener/Cambridge people out. (Figuring out the pickup
points for the schoolbus would be another big task.)

If you have more ideas on how to make this consultation a success,
please share. We should probably get a public message out on the -announce
list by Thursday at the latest.

- Paul

--
Paul Nijjar - http://www.fairvotecanada.org/WaterlooRegion
SDF Public Access UNIX System -
