I'm lousy at writing press releases. However, I modified the one
we used for the Waterloo meeting. (Note to Derek: I put slightly different
words in your mouth this time.)

We can also come up with a more friendly message if this press
release seems to contrived. (You can write a little blurb yourself if you
want.)

Do you know what local media outlets serve Guelph? It would be
good to get in touch with newspapers, TV stations and so on.

- Paul

===

For Immediate Release
JANUARY 16 2007

KITCHENER - All residents of the Guelph-Wellington region are
encouraged to show their support for positive electoral change by
attending the public consultation on electoral reform on Saturday,
January 20. This is the Guelph stop of the Ontario Citizens' Assembly
on Electoral Reform's three-month "consultation phase". The opinions
expressed at this meeting will be taken into consideration when the
Assembly makes its recommendations on voting reform to the Ontario
government in May.

The consultation will be held at the Ministry of Agriculture Building
at 1 Stone Road in Guelph, from 1:00-4:00pm. During the consultation
members of the Citizens' Assembly will listen to oral presentations,
then hold a general discussion.

"Good voting systems are fundamental to good democracy," said Derek
Kraan, co-chair of the Waterloo Region Chapter of Fair Vote Canada.
"By attending this consultation and submitting written comments, the
residents of Guelph can participate in this historic process and
ensure that the Citizens' Assembly recommends a fair voting system
that benefits all Ontarians."

"It's wonderful that the Citizens' Assembly decided to hold a public
consultation in Guelph," added Fair Vote Canada member Paul Nijjar.
"The consultation in Waterloo turned out to be a great opportunity for
ordinary people to learn about electoral reform. I hope that the
residents of Guelph seize this opportunity to attend this meeting and
show the Citizens' Assembly that we care about electoral reform."

The Ontario Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform is a committee of
104 randomly-selected citizens. Its mandate is to investigate and
choose the best voting system for Ontario. If the Assembly recommends
changes to Ontario's voting system then a provincial referendum will
be held on October 4 2007 asking voters to approve the changes.

Fair Vote Canada is a multi-partisan citizens' group working towards
the adoption of fair voting systems across the country.

- 30 -
For more information Contact:
Derek Kraan, co-chair
Fair Vote Canada - Waterloo Region
derek.kraan@fairvote.ca
