Hi Graham,<br><br>Your insert is good, but I would change it as follows:<br><br>
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE REFERENDUM?<br>
<br>
On OCTOBER 10th, 2007, Ontarians will vote in a referendum alongside the provincial election, to answer the question <br>
"What voting system should Ontario use for its elections?"<br>
Our choices are to keep our current system of First Past the
Post, or to choose a new system, called Mixed Member Proportional (MMP). MMP will have two main changes. The first
is that we will vote twice - once for your preferred local representative, and once for your preferred party. The local candidate you vote for need not belong to the party you vote for. By adding 39 list seats to the Ontario Legislature, the total number of seats awarded to each party will reflect the total percentage of votes that party receives province-wide.
<br>
On October 10, 2007, a vote for MMP is a vote for more choice, fairer results and stronger representation.<br>

or come to the Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work (behind Kitchener
City Hall) on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, at 7:00 p.m., for an
information night.<br><br>I know I rewrote a lot of things - but it's important that we make sure people know that it's not a Yes/No referendum - they must choose between the two systems.<br><br>Feel free to change anything in what I suggested. I won't be offended in the least.

Howdy Folks!<br>
<br>
The room given to us for the first meeting of FVC Laurier is NC1056, from 1-2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10th. That's in the science building for those who need to know. If we have Laurier affiliate's attatched to our contacts anywhere, please forward this to them. I've allready posted a facebook message for those in the group. I recognize that during the weekday is not the best time considering most have summer jobs, and have suggested the possiblity of trying to do a second meeting later, but, this is what has occured for now.
<br>
<br>
Also, I have a comment on the insert. I would like to submit something to all the local 'zine's I'm in contact with, and I figure it would be short, to the point, and contain local information so that people can inform themselves if they feel inclined. If it helps with the development of the insert, that would be great, if not, then I look forward to seeing what comes of it.

<br>
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE REFERENDUM?<br>
<br>
On OCTOBER 10th, 2007, Ontario will hold a referendum alongside it's provincial election, to ask the question <br>
"Should Ontario choose a new electoral system?"<br>
Our choices are to keep our current system of First Past the Post, or to choose a new system, called Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMPR). MMPR would have two main changes. The first would be that when we vote, we would have two ballots, one where we vote for a local representative (regardless of which party they're in), AND one where we vote for the party we want elected the most. The second change would be that Ontario would add 30(?) 'list seats', so that when the votes are tallied, the 'list seats' can be used to bring the percentage of seats a party gets in line with their percentage of the popular vote.
<br>
If this seems like a good idea, then on October 10th, vote "YES" for MMPR.<br>

<br>
<br>
Wow, looking at that, it seems so much longer than what would go on a short insert, wouldnt it? If that meet's communal approval, I'll solicit it towards the 'zine scene. <br>
<br>
One final comment; have we considered advertising information nights on the GOODWORKSCANDA Listserve? Goodworks is a listserve that solicits volunteer opportunities, jobs, businesses, etc., that are social and environmentally conscious. I would thank that advertising the information nights might qualify.
<br>
Anyway, thanks y'all; looking forward to the feedback. <br><br>
