<p>Unfortunately, he's correct that the majority of Canadians are uninformed or totally complacent or both.</p>
<p>Without a government that is committed to true democracy as 90% of developed democracies have, and takes on a major education campaign, we in Canada will never see PR. We are not New Zealand where they did care. BC might but they are somewhat more progressive.</p>

I got this response. It seems sympathetic, so he might be receptive to friendly pointers.

<p>Hi Dave:</p>
<p>I'm looking at the results of that government online survey in late 2015, in which 67% said they were somewhat or very satisfied with the existing system. </p>
<p>The Abacus Data poll for the Broadbent Institute reported 40% say electoral reform is not important to them and 12% say they couldn't care less. An Insights West poll found 62% are very or somewhat satisfied with FPTP.</p>
<p>There's no clarion call for action, is there?</p>
<p>As the unfortunate Maryam Monsef said: "The only consensus that the report found was that there is no consensus on electoral reform." </p>
<p>My point is simply this: if the government wants electoral reform, it will not get it by taking the pulse of the country or by providing a stage for interest groups. It has to get out and sell the idea. If half or more than half of the people aren't interested in change, no wise gvernment is going to embrace it.</p>
<p>At this point, the Conservatives are opposed to change and the Liberals don't care about it.</p>
<p>I'm afraid it's not going to happen.</p>
<p>Thanks for writing.</p>
<p>Cheers,</p>
<p>Geoff</p>

Geoffrey,

<br />

<div>
I just read you opinion article at https://www.therecord.com/opinion-story/7490755-time-for-trudeau-to-get-back-to-work/
</div>
<div>
<br />
</div>
<div>
Although I generally agree with the sentiment of the article, you state,
</div>
<div>
"
<span style="background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; font-family: 'UniversLTStd Cn', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 22px;">largest number said they thought they preferred the existing first-past-the-post system, perhaps with tweaks"</span>
</div>
<div>
<br />
</div>
<div>
This massively disagrees with the analysis here: http://www.fairvote.ca/strong-mandate/
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri, 'Slate Pro', sans-serif, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</div>
<div>
How can you explain this? It seems like you didn't read the same report that Fair Vote Canada did.
</div>
<div>
<br />
</div>
<div>
I, and it would seem a majority of Canadians, would prefer Justin had got to work on electoral reform as well.
