<DIV>On Wednesday night, Chris Hedges spoke at <SPAN tabIndex=-1
id=gmail-:13r.8>CIGI</SPAN> in Waterloo. Hedges is an American journalist
& author who reported on the Middle East for the New York Times for 15
years, is an ordained Presbyterian minister (Harvard Divinity School) and has
taught at Columbia, Princeton and <SPAN tabIndex=-1
id=gmail-:13r.11>UoT</SPAN>. He teaches in prisons in New Jersey and has
been influenced by the teachings & work of Dorothy Day who co-founded the
Catholic Worker Movement.</DIV>

<DIV>His talk addressed the foundation of the current political, social and
economic situation in the US and the direction that the US is heading. His views
are an insightful & powerful analysis of the state of democracy in the US
