Hi Fair Vote Canada Waterloo supporters! Please do participate if you'd like. We are one of the most active groups in Canada in our community, and it would be great to have a question from K-W!

Subject: [FVCchapters] Let's Ask the Candidates Some Questions!!

Hi everyone. The elections for Fair Vote Canada's national council are coming up. There are 5 positions opening up - that's 1/3 of the national council - and 11 candidates in the running. These positions are for three years.

I would argue that the next three years are a crucial time in the history of our movement. The work we have been doing for a decade, combined with the current state of our politics, has cumulated in something like a chemical reaction where a large number of people in the public now see electoral reform as imperative to getting us out of this mess and making democracy work for Canadians.

Due to the way we traditionally ask candidates to present themselves, most of the statements of candidates read like the cover letters attached to resumes. We have some great people, but not much idea, unless we know one of them personally, of their opinions on things that matter to us, their views on issues of strategy, or what they would actually try to do differently (or better) if elected, to move our cause and organization forward to it's goal.

Let's ask the candidates what we, personally, want to know!

I'm going to take ten questions from you, and submit them to all the candidates to answer. When the answers come back, I will post them to these lists.

If I get more than ten questions, and some are similar, I will try to rephrase a question that adequately covers the theme. (I don't want to make these people write a book :).

You can send your questions for the candidates to me directly: Anita lanickerson at b2b2c.ca or reply to this list.

Please pass this request on to local chapters lists or other supporters of PR and FVC you know.

Even if someone can't actually vote for a councillor because they're not a paid member, they are welcome to participate anyways - their question likely speaks for a lot Canadians concerned about getting a vote that counts, and will help us reach out to potential supporters.

Thanks, Fair Vote Canada supporters, for helping make sure we elect new leaders who are both active and representative of us, as we tackle the next three years together!

Anita
