Good Morning FairVoting Friends,

The Provincial government is currently reviewing the Municipal
Elections Act and considering electoral alternatives to First Past the
Post. For the next seven weeks, the government is accepting
submissions from citizens on their views on the Ranked Ballot.
Ranked Ballot, when used to elect members in multi-member districts is
a proportional system known as Single Transferable Vote (STV). Here
in Waterloo Region is would mean we would elect Region Council using
STV, a proportional electoral system.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to influence government policy and it
is actually easy. The discussion paper and online questionnaire which you
can use to let the government know your views is here:

http://www.mah.gov.on.ca/Page11112.aspx . Click on Ranked Ballot and
scroll down the page to the questionnaire.

We can have proportional representation in Waterloo Region if the
government allows Ranked Ballots to be used in municipal elections.
Please take a few minutes to fill in the questionnaire, it is only seven
questions and help bring STV to Waterloo Region.

No matter what the issue, at which ever level of government, the key
to good governance is who make the decisions. Let's help the Ontario
government choose Ranked Ballots and get STV in multi-member
districts.

Thank you for your time and support of fair elections.

Best wishes,
Sharon Sommerville
for FVC - WR.
