Hi Everyone: The last Monday of the month is approaching, so it's time for
another Discussion Night.

*What*: Fair Vote Waterloo Discussion Night
*When*: Monday, 30 May 2016 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
*Where*: The Bauer Kitchen http://www.thebauerkitchen.ca/
*Location*: 187 King Street South, Waterloo, Ontario
*Map*: http://osm.org/go/ZXna9v9g--?m=&node=1629123471
*Facebook*: https://www.facebook.com/events/972979906149524/

FairvoteWRC had a Strategy Meeting last Thursday, 19 May 2016 to discuss the
ways in which we can influence the All-party Parliamentary Committee's
decision and report. If you missed the meeting then Discussion Night is an
opportunity to catch up!

The Fair Vote Canada (National Office) Annual General Meeting is in Ottawa
on 3-4 June 2016. Who's going?

The Summer Festival Season is upon us! Do you know of any events where Fair
Vote Waterloo can set up an information booth or table? We have several
events planned already; come help out! If you have no experience staffing an
information booth we'll pair you up with an experienced volunteer.

And some news items worth discussing:

Local MPP Catherine Fife is in the news calling for more transparency and a
non-partisan, independent overview to the provincial Liberals'
proposal for electoral reform in Ontario:

-changes-to-electoral-process/

The Referendum advocates seem to be gaining ground. Let's discuss why a
referendum isn't needed, and promote that at our summer info tables
(hint: it's a Charter issue). Here's iPolitics' article on some recent
polls:
http://ipolitics.ca/2016/05/24/a-referendum-on-electoral-reform-making-sense
-of-differing-ekos-ipsos-polls/

And an older news item, but still worthy of consideration: "Trudeau unlikely
to change voting system, say political scientists" -- what can we do to
prevent Justin Trudeau's views from prevailing at the APC?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/trudeau-proportional-represen
tation-voting-system-1.3280995

Two final items:

Let's discuss when and where we should have the Fair Vote Waterloo Annual
General Meeting. Do we want to combine it with Discussion Night on 27 June
2016, or hold it earlier in the month on another weekday?

And where should we hold our next Discussion Night? Bauer Kitchen is nice,
but it's not for everyone. Does anyone have a second-favourite place for our
group to meet?

See you all on Monday!
