This is good -  but  the generation of the steam is a huge problem.  
When we left Alberta in 2005, the water situation had already become 
acute.  The rivers cannot sustain the enormous use of surface water by 
the tar sands.  The rural situation was becoming dire with the dropping 
of water levels in wells because of the use of groundwater.

It can take up to 3 barrels of water to produce one barrel of oil.  
Think of that in terms of a million barrels of oil produced each and 
every day.  (That's not even to touch on the question of the resulting 
toxic wastewater.)
