If you get GPO emails you will have seen this.
A timely message in view of our discussion on Wednesday.
So it is London, Toronto, Kingston and Cambridge that have moved in this direction.
Maybe we can dig for more information before the next meeting.

Subject: 10 cents for democracy

Dear David,
We’re getting used to Doug Ford passing things off as COVID-19 recovery.
But this one takes the cake.
Buried in his latest pandemic recovery plan is a proposal to cancel electoral reform in local elections.
If Bill 218 passes, ranked ballot voting will be prohibited in Ontario’s 444 municipalities.
Keep Electoral Reform Alive

London was the first to switch to ranked ballots, resulting in the first elected Black woman in the city’s history.
It was an overwhelming success that cost an extra 10 cents per voter.
10 cents for a healthier democracy.
But the Premier said that’s too expensive and we should keep things like they were in 1867.
Is Doug Ford forgetting that he was elected as leader of the PC Party using ranked ballots?
Annamie Paul was elected the same way.
The truth is, switching to ranked ballots means your vote counts for a lot more than it does under our broken first-past-the-post system.
And under ranked ballots, we know that more Greens would get elected.
David, electoral reform was just gaining steam at the local level.
Toronto, Kingston and Cambridge were all gearing up to move to ranked ballots.
Success in cities would have given us momentum for electoral reform at the provincial level.
But Bill 218 will cancel all of this progress and dictate to cities how to run their elections.
David, will you sign onto our letter to keep electoral reform alive.
