Hey, everyone. Another update just in now: Peggy Nash is going to be on our Women's Panel!

Tickets are $20 at the door. Would love to see folks at this convention at this key time in FVC history.

Thanks for being a supporter of Fair Vote Canada Waterloo Region.

            Friends of Fair Vote Canada:

The agenda for the FVC 2012 AGM & Conference is really coming together!

            http://fairvotecanadaagm2012.eventbrite.com/

(Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the agenda.)

The Friday evening event is shaping up nicely. It will take place from 7 pm to 9 pm at Eggspectation Restaurant, 220 Yonge Street (at Shuter Street). This is in the Eaton Centre, but is accessible from Yonge Street.

Jim Harris will lead us in a discussion of the developing Robocalls/Election Fraud scandal, and how it changes the political landscape in Canada.

The robocall scandal has really highlighted the way that our current, winner-take-all system, in which elections are decided by a few swing voters in a few swing ridings, really facilitates and encourages electoral fraud. If a few voters can be shifted in close ridings, many seats can change hands. It has been estimated that the current government’s phony majority hinges on less than seven thousand votes in close ridings. These critical swing voters are easily identified and targeted with modern polling and computer technology.

Jim Harris, author and business speaker, is one of Canada’s leading political bloggers. His recent posts on this topic have made him “Blogger of the Week” and “Blogger of the Month” on Huffington Post Canada. Always an engaging speaker, Jim is a former leader of the Green Party of Canada, and is a member of Fair Vote Canada’s National Advisory Board.

After the discussion, the Friday evening event will continue as a social event with live music from a host of local musicians who have donated their time and talent to promote a better democracy in Canada. They will be performing as The Single Non-Transferable Orchestra. This will be an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss this very special evening!

On Saturday morning, following our brief formal AGM, the conference portion of the day will kick off with our keynote political panel.

The NDP representative on the panel has been confirmed as Craig Scott, MP, recently elected to succeed Jack Layton in the Toronto-Danforth riding. Mr. Scott comes to politics from a background as a Rhodes Scholar and a distinguished professor of law, specializing in human rights. He assisted in drawing up the new constitution of post-apartheid South Africa.

On our panel, he will join Green Party leader Elizabeth May (by Skype from her riding) and Stéphane Dion, former Liberal leader and currently the party’s critic for electoral reform. Mr. Dion has lately been promoting his personal vision of proportional representation for Canada. This promises to be a lively and exciting discussion!

And that’s just the start of a full day of action-focused workshops and panels!

Register now! Space is limited and ticket sales are brisk!

            http://fairvotecanadaagm2012.eventbrite.com/

Note: If you are ordering one of the ticket options that includes lunch, you must order by noon, Friday, May 18.

Looking for reasonable accommodation in downtown Toronto during the conference?

Don’t overlook the Ryerson University student residence at the International Living and Learning Centre.
